If You're Looking to Be Hypnotized...

Baraka is one of the best movies I've ever seen, and is not actually edited the way this video suggests. You can listen to the music or not, but given the options it's not a bad backdrop.

A propos of nothing, have you seen the Monthly's new blog? I don't suppose you'd be allowed to contribute now under your own name, but you'd be a natural.

There were some depressing parts to that movie, like the chicks being processed in a factory. When that scene is contrasted with the masses of people being fed by such practices and the almost unreal natural scenes--it doesn't take a genius to notice the human/environment (dis)connection. I remember feeling from that movie that many human societies are living "too fast" relative to the natural world--the scene of the Japanese subway leaps to mind. A broad conclusion befitting the enormous scope of that movie. But hey, since we're now within 1 degree F of exacerbating the highest global temperature since the Holocene maximum, the pace of the natural world is speeding up to meet us! It's about time nature started catching up with us! Hm, that sounded ominous.

I have seen the blog, and I've wondered whether there's a place for me. Incidentally, I ran into one of the editors on the "tube" the other day and he said I should pitch him story ideas when I had them. So that felt nice.

When reading Mike's comments, I was reminded of the movie "Koyanisqaatsi".

Lapp, it's pretty cool you were invited to pitch story ideas. You surely have some.
